My batiks use a technique of dripping melted crayon followed by a black dye bath to create impressionistic views of nature scenes. Batiks are wax & dye on cloth stretched over canvas or foam core. A few include embroidery. All are framed in black or brown wood gallery frames.
The lack of control over the dripping melted wax forces looseness in execution that results in abstraction. The crayon colors provide a comforting familiarity, while their limited palette means that color choices are loosely interpreted. The result has roots in pointillism and impressionism, as well as traditional batik.
My oil on canvas paintings try to capture the colors and feeling of landscapes, boats, water, flowers, plants, and animals., or abstract works with organic inspiration. All works are framed or gallery hung.
Our environment is filled with majestic and fragile places and simple beauty. I hope my work will invoke daydreams of places you've been or places you want to go.
